A truck driver was hauling an estimated 200 pigs near Auburn on Sunday evening when one of his tires caught fire, which spread to the trailer holding the animals, the California Highway Patrol said.
As the driver was pulling over, a different tire caught fire, which spread to the trailer.
One of the driver’s tires blew out at about 6:45 p.m. near where Interstate 80 intersects with Highway 49, according to Dave Martinez with the CHP’s Auburn office.Advertisement
Some of the pigs were burnt before they could be freed from the trailer. Animal control officers euthanized at least five of the pigs because they were severely burned, Martinez said.
I’m sorry to any animal activist that may read this, but I have one pressing question. Did it smell good? Let be real, these pigs weren’t going to the pig retirement farm, they were on their way to be dinner.
They should have made something out of it. How cool would a roadside pig roast be to see? Now I’m hungry, time for something with bacon, sausage or pork.
